What is the difference between Surgical Masks and Respirators
When it comes to medical face masks, there are two types: surgical masks also known as procedure masks and respirator masks such as those labeled N95 or KF94.

The importance of wearing your mask correctly
Medical masks are designed to provide protection against and limit the spread of respiratory diseases and viruses. However, this can only occur when they are worn correctly. Masks should cover both the nose and mouth, there should be no gaps between the user’s face and the mask, this includes on the sides. To ensure proper coverage, masks should extend from the bridge of the nose to the chin.
What type of protection does my mask offer?
Masks have a protection rating given by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) which defines the level of protection offered by the type of medical mask. There are three classifications levels; Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 which provides the highest level of protection.
Outlined below are the criteria for each classification level.
